This course uses the textbook“A course in Contemporary Chinese (ISBN 978-957-08-4569-3) ” (chapter 5~9) to help students develop proficient language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing that would enable them to communicate effectively in their daily lives. The main purpose of this course is to enhance students’ basic communication ability in Chinese. The communicative functions include: describing people, objects, places and events; telling times and making appointments; discussing daily routines, etc. While learning the Chinese language, students will also be introduced to Chinese culture. Therefore, students who would like to develop their basic conversation skill in Chinese are welcome to this course.
1.For those who have taken Introductory Chinese I of the Chinese Language Course for International Students. 2. Or those who have taken Chinese for at least 36 hrs. (2 hrs/week). NOTE: Students who missed the first class will be dropped from the course.

Reminders: 1. Character writing skill is required in this course. 2. Regular attendance is required, and students who have more than 5 unexcused absences will be failed. A total absence of 1/3 of course hours will lead to an automatic failure.
Evaluation: Attendance and Class Participation: 30% Homework: 15% Quizzes:15% mid-term & final exam: 40%
