This course first gives basic communication principles, including analog and digital communication and various data encoding techniques. The course reviews the leading wired and wireless Local Area Network (LAN) technologies and their latest developments. The course covers prevailing wired LANs, including (1) Ethernet-based LANs, L2/L3 switching technology, (2) Optical Access Networks technologies; and (3) wireless LANs, including Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity).
