本課程的主題將圍繞在描述脊椎動物的生活,介紹脊椎動物各主要類群在解剖形態、生理功能、生態環境、與行為習性,以及強調這些特徵在構造與功能上的交互作用,如何使生物體於其生活環境中進行有效率的運作,同時闡述各別主要類群隨著演化時程的進展,於解剖、生理、生態、及行為學上的變化。本課程之預期目標如下: 1. 使學生熟知脊椎動物各主要類群的基本型態及其分類特徵; 2. 學習脊椎動物的各主要類群的生態及其地理分佈等知識; 3. 練習查閱脊椎動物學的文獻紀錄及相關研究現況。
