This course aims at enhancing students' ability in speaking English, improving pronunciation, and developing critical thinking skills. With broad range of listening materials of various disciplines and academic vocabulary assembled from the Academic Word List (Coxhead, 2000), students are expected to learn and acquire high-intermediate to advanced level of listening and speaking skills and getting prepared for possible upcoming language proficiency tests. Students will be encouraged to deliver various presentations in the hope of improving their language skills as well as enhancing their confidence to speak in public. Class activities include individual, pair, and group presentations, accompanied by in-class discussions and occasional viewing of short video clips to stimulate speaking activities.
*****Students who are enrolled or would like to enroll in the course should be present the first week.***** This is a course offered to freshmen of the department of foreign language. The main objective is to enhance students’ listening and speaking ability through a variety of in-class activities, handouts, video clips, Internet resources, and formal speaking practices, all of which are targeted at upper-intermediate levels.
