The course aims to foster students’ listening and speaking skills by encouraging them to engage in abundance of listening and speaking practice through authentic materials and tasks, such as Ted-talk, VoiceTube, CNN news, 3-Minute Thesis, OpenCourseWare (OCW), Massive Online Open Course (MOOC), 60-Second Science, YouTube video production, model Toastmasters meeting, etc. In addition, specific skills will be developed, including note-taking, public speaking, handling Q&A sessions, shadowing, impromptu speech, panel discussion, and self-talking in English. Students are required to actively participate in in-class discussions, presentations, and independent learning out-of-class.
