This course provides an introduction to qualitative research methodology. It focuses on the nature of qualitative research, including the methodology's distinctive assumptions, the kinds of questions it addresses, and its characteristic procedures for collecting, analyzing, and representing data. We will also read examples on how different qualitative approaches are used to investigate issues in TESOL and applied linguistics. Students will get a hands-on experience of qualitative research by conducting a mini empirical project and reflecting on the research experience.
