Business transformation is an umbrella term for making fundamental changes in how a business or organization runs. This includes personnel, processes, and technology. These transformations help organizations compete more effectively, become more efficient, or make a wholesale strategic pivot. In this class we will examine various issues associated with business transformation using case studies. The course objectives are: To understand how firms evaluate, screen, and select new ventures To analyze the different managerial roles in corporate ventures and the challenges associated with these roles To understand the particular roles of external corporate venturing and corporate venture capital. To understand the tensions between the corporate venturing unit, the business unit and the portfolio firm To apply this knowledge to a real-life situation
