This course intends to provide the students the training for computer programming ability and interests using Python language. The basics of computer hardware is also briefly covered.

(1) The class will be conducted at the university Computer Information Center using public computers. However, it is highly encouraged to bring your own laptop (either Windows or MacOS) to the class because the Center might reset the computer periodically and thus change the development environment of Anaconda. Python is very powerful with a broad range of applications such as statistics, open data, Fintec, optimization, AI, machine learning, image recognition. The third-party packages need to be installed to your Python environment for developing such applications. Thus, if you are interested in computer programming and intends to equip yourself with such skills to broaden your professional portfolio career, it is suggested to buy yourself a suitable laptop for programming. (2) The computers offered at the Center are Windows-based. However, the lecturer will be using MacOS computer in the class. The Anaconda/Jupter Note will be used as the IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for the entire class. The anaconda user interfaces for Windows and MacOS are very similar. The installation of Anaconda for both Windows and MacOS computers will be covered at the beginning, but following the rest of class only MacOS will be covered. Students who use Windows may ask TA or classmates for problems specially with operation system.
