This course is designed for graduate students in science and technology, and is intended to enhance students' academic writing skills. We will review important lexico-grammatical features of English for science and technology; introduce academic writing conventions (e.g., planning, organizing, and writing different parts of a research paper); and focus on forms and styles of scientific research papers. By the end of the course, students are expected to: ‧have gained a thorough understanding of the purposes, contents and structures of the major chapters of an academic research report ‧have mastered some basic writing conventions of the various chapters of an academic research report ‧be able to write a clear and well-organized research report of your field at an acceptable academic standard ‧be able to detect and edit some common language inaccuracies in your own written work
Students who wish to take this course must attend the first class. Those who register but miss the first class will be dropped from the class.
