This course is designed to introduce students to the world of railway engineering. Building upon basic railway transportation knowledge, Railway Engineering provides students in-depth information and materials regarding practical concepts, design approaches, operation, maintenance, and renewal of various components in a railway system, including infrastructure, rolling stock, signaling and train control, and other important subsystems. For each of the components, this course presents students with its engineering knowledge as well as its most recent development and technologies. Several technical skills will be taught so that students will have basic abilities to design certain railway system components. Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be equipped with comprehensive engineering knowledge and holistic understanding of the state-of-the-art development of railway engineering which sets the stage for creating future resilient and sustainable railway systems. Please note: this course will be taught fully in English.

The whole course will be taught fully in English. The course materials will be taught by the instructor via weekly lectures, supplemented by in-class practices and discussion, journal paper study, homework assignments, and exams. A few guest lectures can be expected from outstanding scholars and practitioners in the field of railway engineering.
Assignments: 50% Final Exam: 20% Class Participation: 30%
