The course aims to improve your English proficiency to prepare you for the graduation threshold for English. The course will cover four English skills, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We will be using IELTS materials since the exam is accepted internationally. Remember, although the DFL graduation threshold for English is band 6 in IELTS, the course is aiming higher (bands 6.5 and above). Each lesson is based on a topic, and therefore, you will be learning vocabulary about the topic along with exercise regarding the 4 skills. To improve your learning, the course is divided into listening+speaking and reading+writing. The midterm will be listening and speaking tests. You will be having an individual conversation with me in the speaking test. The final will be reading and writing. Writing will be timed. If you pass an average of band 6, you will pass the course. You will be learning to self-study and take notes on the words you are not familiar with. These notes will be graded as extra points. Rules: If you should be absent from class, you must obtain an official leave of absence through Student's Leave Application System. You may take up to 3 leaves per semester. A leave after the third time will result in 2 points off the final grade. Attendance is mandatory. Your participation score is measured by participation in each class. Your participation points (before midterm) will be shown to you during midterm week. Please note that the course schedule and content are tentative. Changes might occur according to students’ learning needs. You are very welcome to talk to me regarding course/assignment suggestions or your personal needs. Private talks are irrelevant with your grades of the course.
