The objective of this course is to provide the students with the fundamental concepts of logistics management and its related operations and decisions. The course starts with the background, role, and importance of logistics management. Then, the components in the logistics management are introduced together with its functions and targets. The major components include demand forecasting, inventory and supply management, logistics system design (including facility location analysis) and transportation planning and control. Besides, the concept of supply chain integration will be emphasized, and the contemporary issues will be addressed. Several real-world short cases will be discussed to further illustrate the key concepts and the potential practical application. In addition to the topics listed above, the course will also emphasize the application of the spreadsheet software and optimization tool to build up students' basic skills to solve logistics decision problems.
