This course aims to advance students’ listening and writing skills. Students will further develop listening skills (e.g., identifying main ideas, details, making inferences, and note-taking) through authentic listening materials, such as famous speeches and TED talks. Students will also develop writing skills via step-by-step guidelines and activities. By the end of the course, students will learn to: 1. comprehend listening materials which cover more specialized or sophisticated topics. 2. identify and analyze points of view, arguments, or implicit information in the listening material. 3. learn to summarize and understand cohesion in writings. 4. continue to build paragraph and essay writing skills.

Please attend class on time. Being late for 20 minutes without a legitimate reason will be considered absent for that hour. One point will be taken away from the final grade for every unexcused absence (2-hour class). If absent for more than 12 hours, you will fail the course. Medical treatment receipt should be submitted along with the official sick leave form. ***All submitted assignments should reflect your unique perspective and independent thought. When referencing internet sources or AI-generated material, proper citations are essential. Failure to acknowledge original sources or engaging in plagiarism will lead to a failing grade. *** Please set the mobile to silent mode at all times.
