The goal is to introduce different biomonitoring markers used to detect human exposure to various chemicals/toxicants related with early health effects, with an emphasis on appropriate biomarker selection for the measurement these substances in different biological media when doing exposure assessment on human biomonitoring. Course Outline: This course first covers chemicals/toxicants in our environment and workplace, how they enter our bodies (exposure), what they do after entry (toxicology), how they are measured (biomonitoring) and how they impact our health. The course then introduces some of the world’s latest ongoing human biomonitoring programs. Finally, the course imparts an understanding of the steps required to perform human biomonitoring via the measurement of chemical or metabolites in biological media to assess individual human exposure and evaluate the associated health risks. Lectures accompanied with discussion of latest scientific research reports in these topic areas. Please see the course schedule for details.
