概述

This course offers a hands-on approach to UX design research, with a special focus on AI-powered conversational systems. Students will engage in a semester-long project to design and develop an AI chatbot prototype, grounded in user-centered research and iterative design practices. Drawing from the principles and methods of Participatory Design (PD), the course emphasizes user studies, co-creation, and evaluative research. Students will work in teams to conduct field research, engage with stakeholders, and translate insights into the design of interactive AI systems. The course follows a project-based learning model, In addition to gaining familiarity with service design and participatory research methodologies, students are expected to build skills in designing research tools, extracting insights from user needs, and translating those insights into design decisions for Human-AI interaction. The course culminates in two working AI chatbot prototypes – (1) BAMBOO the FOX (2) NYCUKA accompanied by a round of user testing and iteration. Students will conduct user research to explore the human–AI interaction issues in their chatbot design and make refinements based on feedback.

Students planning to take this course should have prior knowledge or have completed foundational courses in "User Experience Design (UXD) " or "Interaction Design (ID)".
