This course introduces the fundamental theories and practical applications of diffusion in solids. Topics include mathematical models based on Fick’s Laws, atomic-level diffusion mechanisms, diffusion driven by concentration gradients, and high-diffusivity paths such as grain boundaries, surfaces, and interfaces in nonmetals and semiconductors. The course also explores the thermodynamic basis of diffusion, phenomena in non-ideal systems (such as the Kirkendall effect), and topics related to thermotransport and electromigration. The inclusion of certain topics may be adjusted based on the pace of the course.
