概述

This course applies electronic engineering principles to biology, medicine, and health sciences. A central focus is the development of interfaces between biological materials (cells, tissues, organs) and electronic components. This course introduces the fundamental concepts of bioelectricity and biosensing, emphasizing how electric fields and currents are generated and utilized in biological systems. Students will learn the principles of device design, biological–electronic signal transduction, and performance limitations of biosensors and bioelectronic systems. Practical considerations—such as materials selection, device architecture, detection limits, and system integration—will be addressed. This course prepares students to evaluate existing technologies, make design decisions, and understand emerging trends in bioelectronics and biosensors. Students completing the course will be able to: 1. Understand core principles behind bioelectronic devices and biosensors. 2. Explain signal transduction between biological systems and electronics. 3. Identify factors affecting device performance and detection limits. 4. Select and design appropriate bioelectronic strategies for real-world problems. 5. Evaluate current challenges and emerging technologies in the field.
