This course is mainly to introduce light propagation in anisotropic crystals, including uniaxial and biaxial crystals. Propagation of light changes by birefringence of crystals. In addition, birefringence of crystal could be induced by electro-optical effect and photoelastic effect. In this course, students will learn how optical waves propagate in crystals as well as how to design light modulators based on electro-optical effect and photoelastic effect.
