English for Current Affairs is designed to develop students’ English proficiency through the exploration of contemporary global issues and current events. Using news articles, interviews, videos, podcasts, and discussion materials, students will strengthen their reading, listening, speaking, and critical thinking skills while learning to understand and discuss important social, cultural, economic, technological, and environmental topics. The course emphasizes the development of academic vocabulary, opinion-sharing skills, and the ability to analyze information from multiple perspectives. Through discussions, presentations, and interactive activities, students will build confidence in expressing ideas, supporting arguments with evidence, and participating actively in English discussions about real-world issues. By the end of the course, students will be able to: * understand the main ideas and key details in news reports, interviews, and current affairs materials. * develop vocabulary and expressions commonly used in discussions of global and social issues. * express opinions and respond to different viewpoints using clear and appropriate English. * analyze and evaluate information from multiple perspectives critically. * participate actively in discussions and presentations related to contemporary topics. * improve reading and listening comprehension skills through authentic English materials. * strengthen fluency, confidence, and communication skills in academic and real-world contexts.

Please attend class on time. Being late for 20 minutes without a legitimate reason will be considered absent for that hour. One point will be taken away from the final grade for every unexcused absence (2-hour class).
