亞際文化研究導論

This course introduces students to the historical formations of inter-Asia cultural studies as movements, thoughts, problematics, and praxis to foreground the trajectories of inter-Asia processes. This entails our investigation of disciplinary demarcations cohered in colonial-imperial-national divides out of which cultural studies emerge, while also critically challenging the boundaries of knowledge production and social practices. Implicated in the process, we will also explore how inter-Asia comes forward and reorients our problematics about imperialism, cold wars, and decolonization long overshadowed by the Anglo-American axis. Drawing on trans-local critical thought-resources in and as a global making process, we will also explore inter-Asia methods with which to problematize “Asia,” to inquire into “inter-Asia subjectivity,” and to experiment with creative and critical space for the emergence of renewed social and cultural movements.
