This course offers students a general introduction to the problem of consciousness, both scientific and philosophical. The principal objectives are to stimulate students to raise significant problems and to develop their own thoughts about consciousness. The scientific part of this course provides a comprehensive survey of neuroimaging research concerning human consciousness, focusing on the three decades of advancement since the inception of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). This scientific component is designed to complement the philosophical foundations of the course, providing empirical evidence to ground and enrich subsequent philosophical discourse.

1. Assignment 40%： Read all the reading assignments. Allow AI assistance. 2. Report 30%： Write 2 short essays. 2 to 4 pages each. 3. Discussion 30%： In-class discussion. We will allocate a substantial time for students to express their understanding and their critic of the reading assignments.
