課程概述與目標: This English for General Purposes (EGP) course is designed for students with an English proficiency level of CEFR B2+ or above. Through reading thematic articles, class sharing and discussions, and instructor guidance on English reading strategies, students will learn to understand the author’s viewpoints in each unit and further develop the ability to express their own opinions orally. Through 10 thematic units, students will quickly acquire related vocabulary and language usage, so that they can gradually internalize before using naturally in communication. By the end of this course, students will be able to read and discuss advanced English texts with greater confidence and independence. Students will develop the ability to understand complex reading materials by identifying main ideas, supporting details, author viewpoints, persuasive language, and implied meanings. They will learn to recognize different text structures, including comparison and contrast, cause and effect, problem–solution patterns, and argumentative writing. Students will also strengthen their reading strategies by making predictions, scanning for specific information, organizing ideas through notes and text mapping, and expanding their academic vocabulary. ***At least 50% of the course content should be related to academic content to support the development of students' academic English proficiency.***
Students need upper-intermediate level of English proficiency.
