Unlike broader ecocriticism, ecofeminism has had to defend itself against accusations of essentialism from wary feminists since its introduction in the 1970s. In effect, ecofeminism has developed with a greater regard for drawing out complicated entanglements between material realities and ideological frameworks. Into the new millennium, inquiries into women-nature relationships have broadened to include diverse approaches such as deep ecology, vegetarianism, planetary health, queer theory, care ethics, new materialism, affect research, and posthuman studies. This course will cover ecofeminism's major commitments and ideologies, with a particular focus on its exploration of and investment in human-animal relationships. Course content includes both critical materials and literary texts.

- The course syllabus is subject to revision. - Active participation is mandatory. - Two points will be deducted from the final grade for every unexcused absence. One point will be taken off in cases of tardiness and other excused absences. - AI tools should primarily be used to refine diction and grammar; all drafts and underlying ideas must be original.
