This course covers the geotechnical design of shallow and deep foundations, including spread footings, mat foundations, driven piles, and bored piles. It provides a review of soil mechanics, subsurface investigations, bearing capacity, and foundation settlement. Additionally, it introduces concepts of lateral earth pressure for excavation work to support the engineering design of retaining walls, sheet pile walls, and braced cuts.
