To develop a quantitative understanding of diffusion and phase transformation in solids. Diffusion topics: Fick’s law, atomic theory of diffusion, and diffusion in alloys. Phase transformation topics: liquid/gas-->solid, nucleation, growth, diffusional transformations, and interface phenomena. Material builds on Thermodynamics of Materials foundations in the prerequisites.
