This is an introductory course in point-set topology, also known as general topology. Starting from familiar notions in metric spaces, we develop the abstract framework of topological spaces and study fundamental topological properties, including continuity, connectedness, compactness, and the countability and separation axioms. We also introduce standard constructions of topological spaces, such as subspace, product, and quotient topologies. The course culminates in the study of metrization, addressing when a topological space arises from a metric.
The only prerequisites for this course are familiarity with mathematical proofs, some elements of set theory, and a good grasp of analysis.
