Students will learn how to use technology, including AI tools, to support their writing and to critically evaluate their use. 5. Students will learn how to deliver effective academic presentations for research papers and theses.

Pedagogy and Supplementary Information （TAs, Websites, Handouts, and Databases) Students will develop academic writing knowledge and skills through writing practice, readings, discussions, instructor presentations, conferences, and group projects. The principle of “learning by doing” will be emphasized throughout the course. Students will work both independently and collaboratively with classmates. They are expected to complete assigned homework, participate actively in various writing tasks, and contribute to major course projects. Course Policies Academic Integrity and Originality Originality is required for all writing assignments and projects. Academic dishonesty and plagiarism are strictly prohibited. Any student who violates these policies will receive a grade of zero for the assignment or project involved. For all writing projects, students may not: 1. Copy from any English articles or books. 2. Translate directly from Chinese articles or books. 3. Include excessive quotations from English or Chinese sources. Direct quotations should not exceed approximately 20% of the total text. Proper citation and documentation of quotations are required. 4. Ask others or AI tools to complete assignments on their behalf. Policy on the Use of AI Students may use AI tools to support their writing; however, AI should assist rather than replace the writer’s own work. Transparency is required when using AI in any writing assignment. Students must clearly disclose how AI was used to assist their writing in all submitted assignments.

1. Writing Assignments (35%) 2. Final Writing Reflection (20%) Students are required to write a reflective essay on their own academic writing development in the form of a five-paragraph essay. Please follow the required paper format provided in the attached document. 3. Writing Portfolio (20%) The portfolio should include all class notes, writing assignments, assigned homework, artifacts, and supplementary materials collected throughout the semester. Students are required to scan and upload their class notes, written work, artifacts, and related materials bi-weekly to the designated university website. If you use materials from any website, you must provide proper citations. For example: Retrieved March 1, 2003, from http://www.actfl.org/index.cfm?weburl:/public/articles /details.cfm?id=33 The citation should appear at the top of the first page. Failure to provide citations will be considered plagiarism. 4. Academic Presentation of Paper, Proposal or Thesis (5%) 5. Class Participation (Individual and Group Participation) (10%) Group participation will be evaluated based on the instructor’s observations and peer/group evaluations. 6. Attendance (or Self-Evaluation) (10%) Regular and punctual attendance is required. If you are unable to attend class due to unavoidable circumstances, such as illness or emergencies, please provide appropriate documentation.
