性別理論

This course will introduce students to crucial theories in gender and sexuality studies. The course will start with classical texts and then proceed to contemporary theories in the field. In addition to theory, we will also read films, moving-image works, digital media arts, scripts of avant-garde and underground performances, memoirs or “biomythography,” and activist video works so that students can understand that the discipline of gender and sexuality studies is never born out of the interests of researchers in the ivory tower. Instead, it is a field where scholars “do theory” with social commitments and utopian aspirations for social change while enduring social and political oppression and, in the meantime, creating new forms of socialities and relationalities. --- 做為一個由被壓迫者集結與形塑而成的學術領域，性別研究一直是一個與當前社會脈絡與文化政治緊密勾連的學科。本課程以此作為立足點與出發點，向學生引介性別研究裡的重要理論與議題。課程會由較為古典的性別理論開始，之後進行至當代重要的理論與議題。除了閱讀理論，我們也會討論電影與動態影像作品、數位電影/藝術、前衛與地下表演劇本、回憶錄或自傳神話、以及藝術家和社會運動行動者的抗議性影像藝術或行為藝術等。如此，修課學生將會理解性別研究從來就不是象牙塔裡的追尋，也與流行、商品化或「認同政治」等學術污名或窄化定義無關。相反的，它一直是一個受壓迫者為了求生存而集結與誕生的學術領域，也一直在不斷變動與更新的壓迫性環境裡思索與記憶少數群體的歷史與政治創傷，並同時形塑新型態的社會關係與社群。

This course is taught primarily in English. Students enrolled in the class may speak and write in English or Chinese.

As usual, we will use a social media platform as our virtual class space. It is our intellectual and social engagement with what is at stake in our contemporary media environment. Details TBA. 作為當代媒體與影像文化的積極實踐與調查者，我們使用新型態社群媒體平台作為本課的課程討論與分享空間；本學期使用之平台將於開學後宣布。

Students who take this course have two options for their final projects: A) Write a term paper. B) Those who have backgrounds in art-making may produce a film or video work, make a work of art in any form, design a computer game, or curate a mini film festival, et cetera, as the final project for the course, provided they have discussed the project with the course instructor in advance.
