This course develops the theoretical foundations of classical and quantum systems away from thermodynamic equilibrium. It begins with stochastic processes and kinetic descriptions, proceeds through linear-response theory, transport, and fluctuation relations, and culminates in hydrodynamics, nonequilibrium phase transitions, field-theoretic methods, and quantum nonequilibrium phenomena. The central objective is to explain how irreversible macroscopic dynamics, transport, dissipation, and entropy production emerge from microscopic dynamical laws. Particular emphasis is placed on the distinction between equilibrium states, transient nonequilibrium states, and nonequilibrium steady states. The course is divided into five thematic units: -Foundations and stochastic dynamics: irreversibility, Markov processes, Langevin dynamics, and Fokker--Planck equations -Response and transport: fluctuation--dissipation relations, kinetic theory, and hydrodynamics -Nonequilibrium thermodynamics: entropy production, steady states, and fluctuation theorems -Field theory and collective phenomena: dynamical path integrals, reaction--diffusion systems, and nonequilibrium phase transitions -Quantum nonequilibrium physics: quantum quenches, equilibration, open systems, Lindblad dynamics, and Keldysh methods
