The purpose of this course is to cover the basics of the theory of elliptic partial differential equations, as well as the elements of parabolic equations. Some aspects of first order PDE's and elements of wave equations will also be briefly addressed in the course. The concept of weak derivatives and the elements of Sobolev space theory will be stressed. The course will strike a balance between the classical approach of taking point-wise gradient estimates of the solutions vs the integration by parts approach as based on the framework of weak solutions to the PDE as involved.
Undergraduate analysis, Graduate level real analysis, linear algebra, vector calculus A student taking this course should know the theory of Lebesgue measure and Lebesuge integration well enough.
