Writing is a social and communicative practice situated within specific disciplinary, professional, and everyday contexts. Adopting a genre-based perspective, this course aims to help you develop genre awareness, analyze how purpose and audience shape communication, and compose effective texts across a variety of contexts. You will engage in authentic writing tasks that reflect contemporary literacy practices, including email communication, academic writing, digital and online communication, news report, discipline-specific writing, and instructional texts. Through reading, analysis, drafting, peer review, and revision, you will learn to make effective rhetorical choices regarding content, organization, language, style, and conventions while responding to the needs of diverse audiences and communicative situations. It is expected that by the end of the course, you will be able to 1. Identify the purposes, audiences, and conventions of different genres. 2. Analyze the key features and structures of various writing tasks. 3. Use appropriate language, style, and tone for different communicative purposes. 4. Apply effective writing strategies to improve coherence, cohesion, and readability. 5. Evaluate strengths and weaknesses in your own writing. 6. Revise and edit texts to improve clarity, accuracy, and effectiveness. 7. Provide constructive peer feedback and respond appropriately to feedback received. 8. Collaborate effectively with others in writing projects. 9. Apply multimodal elements to communicate meaning effectively.
